There was that man, Bret Hart, who said he'd never, ever return to the WWE after the infamous events of November 9th 1997. And he'd never, ever forgive the people who were responsible for what happened that night.
There were those two legends, 'The Showstopper' and 'The Phenom', who used unmatched talent, psychology, stature and the amalgamation of a combined 50 years of wrestling experience to construct thirty of the most beautiful minutes in wrestling history. But a match like that could only happen once. They would never, ever be able to even come close to what they did that two years ago. Equalling or surpassing it was out of the question.
There was that reality show kid, Mike Mizanin, who on entering professional wrestling, found as much acceptance by his peers as a bridesmaid would at a bootcamp. He may have fit in at "The Real World", but would never, ever amount to anything worth anything in the real world. Our world.
There was the other man, called 'The Game'. He was by any standards 'that damn good', but he wasn't a magician like his best friend - The Showstopper. And The Game would never, ever be able to put on a match with The Phenom at remotely the same level as The Showstopper had done.
And then there was that guy Dwayne Johnson, who for the last seven years, had barely cocked an eyebrow, insisting that he had moved on from the business and would never, ever wrestle another match again.
Never.
In World Wrestling Entertainment, years are measured from one Wrestlemania to the next. Well, in the past year we have been lucky enough to have borne spellbound, surreal testimony to some amazing occurences that were never, ever possible in the first place.
Bret Hart hugged Shawn Michaels in the middle of the ring. He wrestled Vince McMahon at Wrestlemania XXVI. At the same event, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker equalled their classic match from the previous year. This year, Triple H incredibly managed to do the same.
The Miz headlined the biggest wrestling show in the world against the company's biggest star and walked out still carrying the world's foremost wrestling championship. And yes, FINALLY The Rock has come back and he will layeth the smacketh down once again inside the squared circle, albeit a year from now.
I have seen enough. I am a believer. So on behalf of all wrestling fans, I move to strike the dirty N-word from the English language.
All those in favour, give me a 'Hell Yeah.'
